A bit about me

Alongside my private tuition, I teach jazz saxophone and A level and BTEC music and music technology at two schools in the Banbury area. I hold a Certificate of Teaching from the ABRSM, and I have full, up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. I have also been an Edexcel examiner for A level Music Technology.

I specialise in the broad field of popular music, (jazz, rock, blues & pop), and as a practitioner, I can guide your progress through improvisation, soloing and horn section work from earliest steps to full-on pro solos.
For those wishing to achieve grade qualifications, I have 100% pass rate for students entering ABRSM & Trinity jazz exams.
I am also very happy to tutor students through their preparations for GCSE or A level music performances.

My private students benefit from the resources of my studio – where lessons are held – including regular recording of ‘works in progress’. These snapshot recordings allow students to reflect on their development as players away from the playing / learning environment. Students also pick up a great deal along the way about contemporary studio and recording practises!

For me, the key to successful learning is for students to enjoy lessons, and leave the studio with both a real sense of achievement and a firm grasp of what they need to do next to take their playing forward.
